About Us
WHAT TO EXPECTAt Boulder Valley, we are committed to making it easier for you to come to church to experience great worship, encouraging messages, friendly people and an enjoyable atmosphere. Part of this commitment involves answering some of your questions even before you arrive. The first time at a church can be intimidating and we hope to alleviate that.
Relaxed We’re pretty casual around here in dress and decorum. You can rest assured that you will never be put on the spot, never singled out, and never embarrassed. Grab a cup of coffee or hot tea and join us for a great time of worship. Music You will notice that about half of our worship is Acappella style (voices only), and our other half is instrumental. We believe that both of these types of music styles are honoring to God and uplifting to our members. Lord's Supper We partake in communion each Sunday. We're an egalitarian (aka gender inclusive) church and enjoy hearing from every member of our church. Any believer of Jesus is welcome to participate in communion. Contribution When you visit, you are our guest. As such, please do not feel obligated to participate in the offering. Let our love and acceptance be our gift to you. We are less concerned that you give something, and more concerned that you experience someone...Jesus. Times We make every effort to start worship service at 10:00 am and end by 11:30 am. At the conclusion of services, you can pick up your children if they participated in junior worship. If you can arrive by 9:00, please join our Bible classes for adults. Deaf & Hard of Hearing We have sign language interpreters both Sunday morning and Wednesday evening for our deaf members and visitors. We also have headsets to amplify the sound, if needed. OUR HISTORYWe are a group of Christ followers who strive to love God, other believers, and a world that needs the saving grace of Jesus. We are a real and down-to earth family who knows about struggles and victories of life in Christ. Our church body includes young families, single-parent families, out-of-nester families, college-age students, young professionals, and grandparents. We have a great group of elders who lead the church. The Boulder Valley Church of Christ has been in existence since 1875, we have been at this location since 1992. Over the years our congregation has seen many changes. We are always looking to see how God can work through us to impact our community and the world around us. We have been involved, for a long time, in ministering to the homeless of Boulder, and supporting missions abroad, including Russia, Guatemala, Haiti and Uganda.

We believe that one God exists eternally in three beings: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God designed, created, and rules over all the world. His desire and plan from the beginning have been that all people should have a relationship with him. We believe that God sent his son to live on earth. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and performed many miracles that confirmed his divinity. Jesus offered himself as a sacrifice on the cross for our sins and that changed everything. He rose from the dead three days later to demonstrate his power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven, is preparing a place there for us, and one day will return in glory and power to take his followers back with him. Jesus is the head of the church, and we believe and follow his teachings because he taught only what the Father commanded. He is the mediator between humans and God, and no one can go to God except through Jesus. The Holy Spirit is a gift from God who dwells in our lives as believers, marking us for salvation. The Spirit helps believers in their walk with God by comforting us, guiding us, and even helping us pray. The Spirit produces fruit and gifts in our lives as believers to strengthen the church and help others know Christ. The Bible We believe The Bible is the inspired word of God and is the final authority in life and doctrine. Sin and Redemption We believe that sin—acting in our own interests instead of God’s—separates people from a relationship with God. Everyone sins, and without an act of divine reconciliation, we cannot know God. Christ’s death on the cross is the only sufficient payment for our sins. All of us have sinned, but all can be saved. Salvation cannot be earned but is a gift from God. It is available to all who trust Christ as Savior and desire to follow his teachings. Salvation and Baptism We believe that those who trust Christ should repent of sin, confess their faith, and be baptized according to God’s command. We believe that baptism beautifully illustrates Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. The Lord’s Supper We believe in sharing the Lord’s Supper, or communion, each Sunday as part of our worship service. When we share the Lord’s Supper, the bread symbolizes the body of Christ and the cup symbolizes his blood. As we share them together, we reflect on his love and sacrifice for us and recommit ourselves to living lives worthy of his sacrifice. The Church We believe that the church is the “body” of Christ on earth. He established the church, and the Holy Spirit empowers it to equip and support believers who reach out to those who do not yet know Christ, helping them become his devoted followers. Christ is the head of the church, and believers are the body. The Bible says that Christ shed his blood for the church so we (the church) can be presented to God as a beautiful bride. Therefore, the church, in spite of its weaknesses and imperfections, is essential to every believer’s life. |
